Overview
A private three-day expedition from Bishkek out to Issyk-Kul and back, built around the contrast between one day and the next — Silk Road history and mountain roads on the first, red-rock canyons and waterfalls on the second, horse riding and valley scenery on the third.
You travel in a private vehicle with a driver and guide, stay in yurt-style accommodation or small local guesthouses along the way, and eat where we eat. An optional fourth day slows the whole thing down if you would rather have more time than more distance.
The route
This route connects some of Kyrgyzstan’s strongest landscapes and cultural stops in a compact private expedition. It begins in Bishkek, travels east through the Chuy Valley towards Issyk-Kul, follows the lake’s southern shore, then returns through Chon Kemin National Park.
Along the way, you’ll move from Silk Road history at Burana Tower to the mountain road scenery of Boom Gorge, then into the red-rock formations of Kok Moinok Canyon and the nomadic culture around Bokonbayevo on Issyk-Kul’s southern shore.
The second part of the route follows some of the region’s most scenic natural stops: Fairy Tale Canyon, hot springs where available, Barskoon Waterfalls, and the red cliffs of Jeti Oguz. The final day returns towards Bishkek through Chon Kemin, where the route finishes with horse riding, valley scenery and local food.
The standard route runs over 3 days. An optional 4th day can be added for a slower pace, extra photography time, Karakol, additional hot springs, Bishkek culture, a cooking class and further local experiences.
